Bapu Surat Singh discharged from hospital; Wave of arrests continue

Ludhiana -Bapu Surat Singh Khalsa has been discharged by the doctors at the Dayanand Medical College and Hospital today and has now reached his native village Hassanpur.

Confirming this, Bapu Surat Singh’s son Ravinderjit Singh Gogi said they had taken him to their house at Hassanpur village and that the protest by his father would continue till the release of Sikh prisoners from jails.

Following the development, members of the sangharsh committee and Panthic organisations called off the protest scheduled outside the hospital for August 6.

Claiming the health of Bapu ji in stable condition, Officials at the DMCH had written to the deputy commissioner recommending shifting of Khalsa to the civil hospital or some other institute.

Bapu Surat Singh’s lawyer Gurjinder Singh Sahni had sent a notice to the deputy commissioner, alleging Khalsa’s “illegal” detention.

Security has been beefed up around Hassanpur village as it is feared that his arrival could again escalate tension in the area.

Bapu Surat Singh’s supporters have already started converging in the village.

According to Media Sources, Bapu Surat Singh’s discharge from the hospital was being seen as a political move.

Around 50 Singhs have been arrested last night from all over Punjab including Dal Khalsa Leader Kanwarpal Singh and Sikh Youth Front leader Papalpreet Singh. The wave of arrests has been unleashed to scare sangat from reaching Hassanpur and supporting Bapu Surat Singh Morcha.
