PERTH – A teenager from Perth has just become the first Sikh person to fly solo around Australia. At the age of 15, Avneet Kaur Gill becomes third Punjabi girl and first solo sikh pilot as she achieves the goal to fly a single engine trainer aeroplane in the skies of Perth.
Avneet Komal hailing from a village in Ludhiana District has made a huge impact with unusual achievement. Her parents Harjet Singh Gill and Gurinder Kaur migrated to Australia when she was only 4 years old. Her mother, recalls that Avneet during her primary school, got impressed with the story “Born to Fly” and since then she started thinking to be pilot.
She started her intial training in Royal Aero Club Jandakot (Perth) and completed her six months training course. She did her 17hrs flight during the training and with the tranees and on the October 7, this month, she got her solo flight at 3PM and got success with a single engine aeroplane.
Avneet is also a good player of netball and is a player of the Perth Sikh Swan team.
