Asylum seeker boat intercepted near NT coast

AN ASYLUM SEEKER boat has been intercepted off the NT coast, just days after the government boasted it was “stopping the boats” and that none had arrived in the last week.

The NT News received information an asylum seeker vessel was about 90 nautical miles – 165km – from the mainland coast, near Bathurst Island, this morning.

The NT News was there when the Royal Australian Navy intercepted the vessel, named ‘RISKI-02’.

The Australian Defence Force, Customs and the Immigration Department have been contacted for comment.
