Ahmedabad, March 5: AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal, on being released, claimed that the orders to hold him came from the top. “My detention shows that Narendra Modi is rattled by my presence,” said a combative Kejriwal.
Aam Aadmi Party chief Arvind Kejriwal was detained by police in North Gujarat on Wednesday.
The police sources say that Kejriwal was not given permission to hold rallies in Gujarat. He was detained while he was moving from Bechraji to Radhanpur.
BJP claims that he was not arrested but only taken for questioning on the code of conduct over election campaigns, AAP has a different story to tell.
AAP Gujarat convenor Sukhdev Patel said that the detention was a security check to ensure that AAP had all the permissions for the road-show to be carried out by Kejriwal.
When Kejriwal landed in Gujarat, he was welcomed by black flags.
While police officials say that the detention is because of violation of poll code of conduct mandated with effect by Election commission, AAP has given a different statement that the detention is based on necessary clearances required for road-shows and police is verifying the documents before Kejriwal will be set free.
Arvind Kejriwal landed in Gujarat on Wednesday for a four-day tour in which he wants to assess the actual state of BJP’s prime ministerial candidate’s claimed developments.
Kejriwal is travelling with close aides including Manish Sisodia.
Kejriwal has been focusing on the general election that are to be held from April. And Modi has been the chief target in most of his election speeches.
