Mansa – A 16-year-old boy killed his mother on Monday evening after she allegedly denied him money for buying drugs, police said. The boy was from Kot Dharmu village of Mansa district and the incident took place on June 27 over her refusal to give him money to buy smack.

The minor boy was once an Amritdhari Sikh. However, He later came in contact with some addicts and started taking drugs. He was kept in confinement by his parents. But his mother freed him on June 27 and was shot the same day after she refused to give him Rs 5,000 to buy drugs.

The minor allegedly shot her using the rifle of his father Kuldip Singh, a scrap dealer.

A villager said the victim, Kulwinder Kaur, had moved to her paternal home at Burj Mansa village along with her two children as her husband was an alcoholic. “But she returned after village elders intervened and now she is killed by her own son,” he said.

Shaminderpal Singh, sarpanch of Kot Dharmu village, said: “The boy was a drug addict and was tied inside the house, but the mother felt pity of him and freed him for a while and paid for her life. The boy was a student of a private school at Dullowal village, but the authorities had expelled him. He was a Amritdhari Sikh but he did not adhere to the Sikh tenets after falling in the company of drug addicts.”

The minor has been detained by the police under Sections 302 of the IPC and Sections 25, 30, 54 and 59 of the Arms Act.

The police, however, claimed that the accused was not a minor and aged above 18 years. They also denied drug addiction as the reason behind the killing. Kot Dharmu SHO Chanan Singh claimed: “There was a scuffle between the father and son. The mother intervened when the boy tried to shot himself. The bullet accidentally hit the mother in her stomach.”
