Amritsar: Jathedar of Akal Takht Gyani Gurbachan Singh on Monday visited Prof. Devinder Pal Singh Bhullar and asked the medical team treating him to allow one of his relative to stay with him.
Prof Bhullar was shifted to Swami Vivekananda Drug De-addiction Centre here due to severe depression from the Central Jail Amritsar.
Giani Gurbachan Singh spent nearly seven minutes with Prof Bhullar and asked the doctors and jail staff to allow one of the Bhullar’s relative to stay with him round the clock due to his ill health.
Talking to the mediapersons after meeting Pro. Bhullar, the Jathedar said the politicians should not resort to issuing statements against the release of Sikh detainees, adding that those who have already served their jail term have the legal right to be released.“There is no threat to the peace in the state due to their release,” he said.
According to him, the political leaders should not hold ill-will against anybody and let the law of land take its own course.
Prior to meeting Bhullar, the Jathedar, along with SGPC executive member RS Mehta, met his wife Navneet Kaur in the waiting hall of the hospital. On parole, Bibi Navneet Kaur said the first priority was that his health should stabilise first and only then, they would take the next step. When asked about his permanent release, she asked: Don’t you think a person deserves to be out of jail after remaining behind bars for 21 long years?
Only the Jathedar was allowed to meet Bhullar though he was accompanied by around 15 to 20 people. After coming out, the Jathedar presented a ‘siropa’ (robe of honour) to Navneet Kaur.
