AMRITSAR – The Akal Takht Sahib on Thursday excommunicated former SAD minister Sucha Singh Langah after the meeting of the five Takht Jathedars.
The move comes a day after Langah surrendered in a Gurdaspur court, which remanded him in five-day police custody.
Pronouncing the “hukamnama” (edict) after a three-hour meeting with four other Sikh high priests, Akal Takht jathedar Gaini Gurbachan Singh said Sikhs were known for their high and inspirational character but Langah had hurt the community’s sentiments.
“Langah has brought a bad name to the community and his acts can’t be pardoned,”
The jathedar said though Langah was removed from all posts he held in the SGPC and SAD…still if he has been associated with any organisation he should be removed.
He cautioned that anyone who has been involved in such immoral activities must not be included in any religious organisation in future.
“A person’s character should be the main criteria before nominating anyone for membership of any religious organisation,” he said.
Langah was booked by Gurdaspur police on September 29 under Sections 376 (rape), 384 (extortion), 420 (cheating) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) on the complaint of a woman police constable who alleged that the Akali leader raped her repeatedly since 2009. The woman also submitted a 20-minute video to the police.
