After Punjab, now ‘Nanak Shah Fakir’ banned in Chandigarh for 2 months

Chandigarh – The controversial movie, Nanak Shah Fakir has finally been banned by the Chandigarh Administration as well for a period of two months.

The objection to the film had first been raised by Dal Khalsa leader Kanwarpal Singh.

A delegation of the representatives of the Chandigarh gurdwara managements led by Rajinder Singh had met the administration officials last evening and submitted a memorandum seeking ban on the film on the plea that it would hurt the Sikh sentiments.

The Chandigarh district magistrate V P Singh issued the notification stating there was a strong apprehension of massive protest which might lead to serious law and order situation.

This notification has also referred to the order issued by the Punjab government banning the release of the film in the state for two months. The intelligence agencies in Punjab had expressed the apprehension that the explosive situation emerging after the  release of the film could be exploited  by the anti-national elements to disturb peace . It might endanger the hard earned peace and harmony.

The Chandigarh administration stated that being the capital of Punjab, the city suffered from the same vulnerabilities.

AAP Delegates demand ban on Nanak Shah Fakir in Delhi

Two Sikh AAP MLAs on Thursday demanded ban on the screening of ‘Nanak Shah Fakir’, a film based on the life of Guru Nanak, in the national capital.

Rajouri MLA Jarnail Singh and Hari Nagar MLA Jagdeep Singh met chief minister Arvind Kejriwal and raised the issue with him saying the film, releasing tomorrow, would hurt the sentiments of the Sikh community.

“The film has been banned in Punjab yesterday. Several representatives of the Sikh community have met us in this regard. Even the Akal Takht, the highest seat of authority of the Sikhs, too had reservations about the movie.

“We have also raised a similar demand with the chief minister. He has forwarded the matter to Lt governor Najeeb Jung as section 13 of the Cinematographic Act empowers him to take a call in such matters,” Jarnail Singh said.
