Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) National convener and Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal announced candidature of Himmat Singh Shergill against SAD Candidate & Revenue Minister Bikram Singh Majithia from Majitha segment. Though it was named Majha Fateh Rally, crowd for the special announcement was mobilised from across the state.
The Delhi Chief Minister proposed the candidature of Shergill from the dais and sought public’s nod.
“Our candidate will hand out a convincing defeat to Majithia.”
Shergill is a lawyer at the Punjab and Haryana High Court and party’s legal cell in charge. Earlier, he was fielded from Mohali. “We have all gathered here to uproot Majithia from his constituency. The massive gathering gives me confidence that Majithia will forfeit his deposit,” Kejriwal said.
Shergill came on the stage and said he was ready to contest.
“We will take revenge on Bikram Singh Majithia. We have to get justice for those mothers whose sons were killed due to drug addiction. Bikram Singh Majithia deserves to be in jail not in Assembly.”
Addressing Bikram Singh Majithia, Kejriwal said,
“People will come to your home and hold you by the collar and drag you to jail.”
All the leaders tore into Majitha and the Badal family. Lok Insaf Party founder Simranjit Singh Bains, who was also at the rally, did not even spare Surinder Pal Kaur Badal, the deceased wife of Punjab CM Parkash Singh Badal.
“Surinder Kaur Badal was corrupt but she was not that bad to sell drugs. But today, SAD leaders have been selling drugs,” said Bains.
State AAP convener Gurpreet Singh Ghugi, in his speech, claimed that the party candidate’s victory margin from Majitha would be the biggest in the state.
‘Capt will never field strong candidate against Majithia’
Accusing Punjab Congress chief Capt Amarinder Singh of having a pact with Majithia, Kejriwal said the former will never field a strong candidate against his ‘nephew’ Majithia.
“Last time also, the candidate fielded by Capt Amarinder got around 7,000 votes. It is just because Amarinder wants Majithia to win. It is just a game of Badals and Captain.
A few days back when we announced the name of Bhagwant Mann against Sukhbir Badal, Sukhbir challenged me to contest against him. I just want to ask why Sukhbir doesn’t invite Capt Amarinder to contest from Jalalabad,” the Delhi CM said. “Now, Majithia has also challenged me to contest from Majitha, why doesn’t he challenge his uncle Capt Amarinder?”
