Brisbane – On January 22, 50 recipients were awarded a Local Legends awards by MP Jim Chalmers at a special celebration held at St Maximilian Kolbe Parish, Marsden surrounded by family, friends, clients and supporters.
It was a moment of proud for Sikh Community as 80 years old Bhai Joga Singh was honoured with Local Legend award for his contribution as a volunteer on all five mornings a week making breakfast for children in need.
Every morning Joga Singh serves breakfast to hungry students at the Slacks Creek SS breakfast club.
Jim Chalmers, MP for Rankin, felt it was time that someone did make a fuss and recognise these “terrific local people” making a difference in the community every day.
“I am often amazed by the selfless acts that help make ours a community that looks out for each other,” said Jim Chalmers. So last October his office opened up nominations for the first ever Local Legends Awards. These awards are all about acknowledging and celebrating the efforts of “our community’s finest and most selfless people”.
“Congratulations to everyone whose contribution we celebrated and thanks to all the friends and family members who came along to make it a really special afternoon,” said Jim Chalmers MP.
