MELBOURNE – Tense and tactical with sublime moments of excellence, Saheed Baba Deep Singh Sports Club Woolgoolga overcame the stiff challenge posed by their powerful opponents Royal Kings USA team by a 31-29.5 margin, winning International Kabaddi Cup Melbourne 2017. Celebrating the parkash purab of Guru Nanak Dev ji, the tournament was jointly organised under the banner of Australian Kabaddi Federation Inc. & Melbourne Kabaddi Club at Dal Baba Bidhi Chand Ji Khalsa Shaouni, Plumpton.
Both teams began cautiously, sizing each other up.
The winner team was awarded a reward of $5000 while runner-up team won $4000. Mexican Kabaddi Player Jairo Chavez won the Best raider title while Kudda Kala Sangha and Ruby Harkhowal won the Best Stopper title.
SGPC team from Punjab also participated in the tournament.
On this occasion, Baba Avtar Singh ji Bidhi Chandiye from Sur Singh also presided and laid the foundation stone of new building of Gurdwara Sahib Dal Baba Bidhi Chand Khalsa Shouni Plumpton.
Melbourne Kabaddi Club also announced the upcoming Kabaddi World Cup 2018 to be held in April next year.
