Victoria has recorded no new COVID deaths for the first time in two months.
Victoria reported 42 new cases of coronavirus and no additional deaths on Tuesday.
It’s the first time in two months that no new COVID deaths were reported.
Since the pandemic began, 729 Victorians have died from coronavirus.
The number of new daily cases of coronavirus has been dropping steadily the past two weeks, leading to hope that restrictions could soon be eased.
Melbourne will move to its next step of reopening on September 28 if the 14-day average falls to 30-50.
On Tuesday, it was incredibly close at 52.9.
The city took its first tentative steps out of lockdown on Monday, with those living alone or single parents allowed to have one visitor, outdoor exercise extended to two hours and curfew’s start time extended an hour to 9pm.
Regional Victoria could move to the “third step” of its roadmap plan as early as this week if the number of new daily coronavirus cases stays below five.
That step would allow people to leave their homes without restrictions and hospitality businesses to reopen.
The 14 day average on Tuesday stood at 3.6.
