PATIALA – Malaysian Humanitarian aid worker and United Sikhs Director, Rishiwant Singh died in a motorbike accident in Patiala here on 25th November.
Rishiwant Singh, who is fondly known as the Flying Singh, was riding a rented motorcycle. The mishap took place near Guru Nanak Ashram, Rasulpur Saida. He lost control of his bike while trying to avoid a collision with another two-wheeler, the police said. Rishiwant was rushed to Government Rajindra Hospital, where he was declared brought dead.
Rishiwant had landed in Amritsar on November 13. He was here to serve at the Guru Nanak Ashram along with 15 other Malaysian nationals.
His wife, Malkeet Kaur, confirmed the incident.
“We are heading to India soon to make the necessary arrangements.
“He is a true humanitarian, a good person who wanted to help people whenever he could,” she told the media.
Rishiwant is survived by his wife and three children. He was 43 years old. Apart from his social service & endeavors, Rishiwant was also known for his Goodwill Walk.
He was among 10 individuals and groups who were given The Star Golden Hearts Awards 2016 two years ago, as a recognition of his humanitarian works, especially for his role in building bridges between different communities as well as promoting racial harmony and unity.
The social networking sites, including his Facebook and Linkedin filled his wall with condolence messages since the breakout of the news.
