VICTORIA – It seems that Uber’s Victorian legal troubles will soon be over, as the state government this week committed to introducing laws that will regulate ridesharing services.

Uber could be legalised in Victoria by the end of the year after the government agreed to work on new laws with the Sex Party.

The ride-sharing service has been operating in the state since January 2013, but has been in legal limbo since then.

Sex Party MP Fiona Patten proposed new laws to regulate Uber but has agreed to put her bill on hold while the government figures out how to make them work.

She says she hopes to see the laws operating before Christmas.

Public Transport Minister Jacinta Allan said the laws had to take into account how fast the hire car industry was developing.
