THE death of a baby boy found dead inside a vehicle outside a Helena Valley daycare centre is being treated by police as a tragic accident.
Police and emergency services were called to the Ladybugs Early Learning Centre on Torquata Boulevard, Helena Valley, in Perth’s east just after 4pm yesterday.
Police have said the father arrived at the daycare centre to collect his 11-month-old baby son, only to be told the child was never delivered to the centre in the morning.
The ABC are reporting that the boy’s death is being treated as an accident.
The temperature in Perth reached 25.7C, the hottest day since last summer, and it is believed the baby may have been in the car all day.
A police spokesman said today detectives would continue to investigate the circumstances around the baby’s death.
“It is a tragic time for their family and it’s also hard for the daycare centre staff who were also present,” he said.
“Overnight and continuing today we’re investigating all the circumstances surrounding the death of the child.”
It is not yet known what exactly caused the boy’s death and police are conducting further inquiries.
PerthNow has been told that the boy was found in a dark grey Honda Civic sedan that was parked outside the centre.
The car was towed to the Midland forensic branch for further analysis.
The boy’s body has been taken away and his death will be the subject of a coronial investigation.
Seven News reported that parents of children at the centre were contacted and warned there would be a strong police presence when they collected their children.
