Supreme Court rejects Davinder Pal Bhullar’s review petition

NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court today rejected review petition seeking stay on execution of Davinder Pal Singh Bhullar.

Death row convict Bhullar was awarded death penalty for his involvement in the bomb attack on the then Youth Congress president Maninderjeet Singh Bitta in 1993. The attack killed nine cops and injured 25 others including Bitta. 

Bhullar’s appeal against death penalty was dismissed by Supreme Court on March 26, 2002. 

Later his review petition was also dismissed on December 17, 2002. The terrorist had then moved a curative petition which too had been rejected by Supreme Court on March 12, 2003.He later filed a mercy petition before President on January 14, 2003 and after a wait of over 8 years his plea was dismissed on May 25 last year.

On April 02, the Supreme Court dismissed Bhullar’s mercy petition to commute his death sentence to life imprisonment. 

A graduate in electrical engineering from Guru Nanak Engineering College Ludhiana, Bhullar had served as professor in different technical colleges of Punjab.
