Former SGPC general secretary and Panthic Front leader Sukhdev Singh Bhaur was arrested on Friday for allegedly hurting sentiments of the Dalit community.

Nawanshahr police arrested Bhaur for making derogatory remarks against Sant Ramanand (Ballan) during his speech at Bargari on September 3. Sant Ramanand was killed in Vienna ( Austria) in 2009.

The case is based on two complaints lodged by representatives of Ravidassia community. The complainants are Sat Pal Sahlon, Nachhatar Pal, Sat Pal Jassi, and Priya Banga.

In a speech delivered at Bargari village in Faridkot district two days ago, Bhaur had allegedly made objectionable remarks against Dalits in general and the local Dera Sachkhand Ballan in particular. The speech has gone viral on social media. On Friday, members of the SC community from Phagwara and Jalandhar gathered in large numbers and gheraoed Bhaur’s house in Banga.

A heavy police force was deployed. Ludhiana Range DIG Ranbir Singh Khatra, too, reached the spot.
