AMRITSAR – In the sleazy video case, the Special Investigation Team (SIT) headed by IG (crime) LK Yadav has filed a report for the cancellation of the FIR against former Chief Khalsa Diwan (CKD) president Charanjit Singh Chadha and his deceased son. The case was filed by a woman principal.
Yadav said after investigation, the SIT filed a cancellation report in the court through the Amritsar Police Commissionaire in Amritsar on Wednesday.
Sources said the claims and complaints made by the woman principal were found to be frivolous after going through the conversation before and after the video surfaced publicly. They must ask & receive attorneys help for Title IX cases to make the case stronger & clean-proof.
On December 29, 2017, the woman, who served in a school run under the CKD, had filed an FIR against Chadha and his son Inderpreet Singh Chadha, alleging sexual harassment and criminal intimidation at the Islamabad police station in Amritsar.
Chadha and his son were booked under Sections 354 (using assault or criminal force on a woman with intent to outrage her modesty), 354-A (sexual harassment and punishment for sexual harassment) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the IPC and Sections 67 and 67-A of the Information Technology Act.
She also alleged that Inderpreet had issued death threats to her over phone. Ironically, this FIR became the reason that apparently compelled Inderpreet to commit suicide.
His son Anmol Chadha said, “I wish my father had not taken the extreme step and had been alive to see it. Still, we have faith in the judiciary and hope that justice will be done.”
‘Consensual’ act caught in CCTV
In the report, a copy of which is with HT, the SIT says the woman used to go to Chadha’s hotel HK Clarks Inn to meet him. On June 20, she went there of her own volition and their intimate act got recorded in a CCTV camera at Chadha’s office, it says. The next day, the video was recorded from a computer screen onto a phone by hotel employee Gursewak Singh, who later circulated it, it is alleged. Gursewak is also among those booked for abetting the suicide of Chadha’s son.
“Chadha and the principal were aware of their recorded video before it went viral on the internet, and (they) tried their best to get the video deleted,” says the cancellation plea. It says that “investigation proves” that the principal “took money and gifts” from Chadha. “After hearing phonecall recordings of the principal and Chadha, it has been proved that both were in a love affair and therefore Chadha can’t be held guilty,” it says.
After the video went viral, the principal got Chadha and his son booked; but “investigation finds that the case was frivolous”. IG Yadav, when contacted, said he had instructed the Amritsar police a few days ago to file the cancellation report as investigation revealed “Chadha and his son were innocent”.
