Sikh Kirpan permitted on flights within and departing New Zealand

Must Read

Sikh kirpans with blades up to 6cm (not 6 inches) are allowed on flights within and departing New Zealand.

To the Sikhs, the kirpan is a blessing from the Guru and holds very high spiritual significance. In accordance with New Zealand regulations related to blades, kirpans are allowed on board flights within or departing New Zealand.

If the Kirpan blade is longer than 6cm it will need to be checked in as it will be refused carriage into the aircraft. Not all countries allow blades of any type on board an aircraft so if you are carrying a Kirpan of any length and transiting an overseas airport to and from New Zealand you may need to speak to your airline representative.
