MELBOURNE, Australia—A culmination of 30 years of research was experienced at the opening ceremony of Sikh Empire Exhibition, that took place in Melbourne, Australia on 17th December at the Drill Hall – Multicultural Hub.
Hosted by the Supreme Sikh Council of Australia, the event showcased an extensive research of Sikh items of collection, including a “Gutka Sahib” (Sikh Holy Prayer book), dating from the year 1900.
The opening of the exhibition started with a warm welcome by Harkirat Singh, Gen. Secy, Supreme Sikh Council of Australia. He told that the aim of the exhibition was to educate the Australian multicultural community about the history and culture of Sikh Nation.
Guest speakers of the event included Mr. Bobby Singh Bansal- Historian and Film maker from UK and Mr. Shahid Shabir, Free lance Historian and researcher from Pakistan.
Various dignitaries from Australia including, Hon. Robin Scott MP – Minister for Multicultural Affairs, Hon. Inga Peulich MLC- Shadow Minister for Multicultural Affairs, Hon. Rob Mitchell MP- Federal Member for McEwen, Ms Nina Springle – Multicultural Spokesperson for Greens and Alex Bhathal, Greens Member delivered their speeches at the occasion.
Following the speeches, there was a guided tour of the exhibition.
The Sikh Empire Exhibition represented an Educational photo exhibition focusing on the arts, architecture and remnants of Sikh Empire, the Sikh History and the Australian Sikh Heritage. The exhibition commemorated the largely forgotten contribution and experiences of Sikh rulers, soldiers from 1800 century and later.
