Dancing, music, food and dress-ups from across the world drew thousands to Shepparton’s Victoria Park Lake on Saturday night for the Shepparton Festival’s signature event — The Emerge at Twilight Festival.
According to organizers, about 4000 people attended the annual Emerge at Twilight festival, which has become the Shepparton festival’s signature event.
A popular drawcard was free meals and turbans offered by the Sikh community. The Sikh community distributed a range of vegetarian foods also called Langar in traditional Sikh language to thousands at the event.
In addition to all the above fun there was a Try-On-A-Turban stall which attracted people from different faiths to try a turban and have their selfies.
Besides free food and turban stalls, Sikhs also made their presence felt at the festival with their nerve-racking display of martial art ‘Gatka’.
One of the organizers, Kamaldeep Singh said, “The festival is a chance for everyone to get together and learn more about Sikhism. We’re hoping it will become an annual participation in future. It is the first time we have done it.“
The evening finished about 10pm with a spectacular light show over the lake.
