Shiromani Akali Dal (Amritsar) Chief Simranjit Singh Mann on Tuesday withdrew the petition on issuing direction to Punjab government to allow ‘Sarbat Khalsa’ (congregation of the Sikhs) from the Punjab and Haryana high court.
Earlier, Not convinced with the contentions raised by Mann, the high court had deferred the hearing by a day on Monday.
The high court bench of justice RK Jain on Monday questioned Mann’s lawyer Ranjan Lakhanpal whether directions to hold such an event were required when the petitioner was arguing that it was a fundamental right of a Sikh to hold such an event.
The congregation was planned to be held at Talwandi Sabo on November 10 to discuss issues concerning Sikhism. The High court bench also observed that petition was not clear and deferred the matter for Tuesday, asking Advocate Lakhanpal to get hold of material which could help in adjudication of the matter.
