Up until now, we have all been watching, reflecting and wanting to do something about what is going on in Punjab with the regards to the recent events, but everyone we speak to does not quite know what we should be doing for a productive outcome, well now we the panth have an opportunity to make a change.
Below is a tentative Sarbat Khalsa Proposal which Sangat worldwide is pushing for, this Proposal is also being heavily promoted by sangat in Europe and Canada/USA and we here in Australia and New Zealand need to be on the same level and pushing for this.
We (God willing) have this one opportunity on the 11th November to tweak the leadership of the panth to bypass the current hurdles (Punjab Sarkar, Badal, Corruption etc), let’s take full advantage of this opportunity, we will need each and every one to promote this to make this work.
Biggest point is that we need leadership that is NOT under the influence of any government or influenced by any local political/economical scenario’s and that’s what this proposal is designed to do.
Please push this to your local Gurdwara committees also and make sure they are on board and promoting this.
Short Term: Sarbat Khalsa Globally on Nov.11/15
– Endorse Sarbat Khalsa and protect it from failure by:
- Simultaneously endorsing the resolutions globally (hundreds of Gurdwaras across the world representing Lakhs or Millions of Sikhs on Bandi-Chorh-Divas – November 11th, 2015)
- This will also force those in India to share the Resolutions with the Global Sikh Community in advance and try to reach consensus.
- This will insure success of the Sarbat Khalsa (by it being implemented Globally across hundreds of Gurdwaras), even if anti-Panthic forces don’t allow it to happen in India.
– Pass five key resolutions at the Sarbat Khalsa:
- Discharge the current Jathedars
- Appoint of a new interim-Jathedar of the Akal Takht (potentially: Jathedar Ranjit Singh; Jagtar Singh Hawara; Bhai Lal Singh – or others acceptable to the Panth)
- Establish dates for interim World Convention (potentially on Guru Gobind Singh’s Gurpurab) and Global Vaisakhi 2016 Sarbat Khalsa • Establish an organizing committee for the World Sikh Convention
- Mandate the following tasks to be completed at the World Sikh Convention and to be presented at the Vaisakhi 2016 Sarbat Khalsa for approval:
- Selection and appointment of the remaining four Jathedars (preferably one each representing or from: North America; Europe; Rest of World; India)
- Procedures for future selection, establishment and termination of the Five Jathedars
- Definition of the roles, duties and responsibilities of the Jathedars, independent of any country’s governmental structure or political influence (e.g. not under the legal authority of India’s Gurdwaras Act)
- Procedures for calling and conducting future Sarbat Khalsa
- Decision making and Edict implementation process of the Jathedars (e.g. decisions cannot be made without a broad consultative process; and extensive Gurbani based reasoning) – Note1 i. Global platform for raising issues for consideration by the Jathedars.
- Consultative committees to advise the Jathedars on Religious, Political, Financial and Legal issues.
- Resources and budgets to support the Office of the Jathedars, in their ability to implement the mandate given to them by the Panth
Benefits:
- Instead of complicating the issues, we maybe able to reach consensus on one Jathedar, and beyond that we’re asking for time and mandate from the panth to deal with the other issues
Mid-Term: Sarbat Khalsa Vaisakhi 2016
Approval of the details of each of the following:

- Procedures for calling and conducting future Sarbat Khalsa
- Decision making and Edict implementation process of the Jathedars (e.g. decisions cannot be made without a broad consultative process; and extensive Gurbani based reasoning) – Note1
- Global platform for raising issues for consideration by the Jathedars
