Bathinda – Renowned Dhadi Bhai Gurbakash Singh Albela passed away at the age of 61 at the PGI, Chandigarh on Monday 11th January after prolonged illnesses.
A resident of Burj Rajgarh village in Bathinda district, Albela was suffering from a prolonged liver ailment that had left him bed-ridden for the past over a month. The funeral will be held at his native village on Tuesday.
Known for promoting Sikh religion and culture through his writing and songs, Bhai Albela’s career peaked between 1984 and 1990, when his compositions became very popular in the state. Such was his fame that music company T-Series released cassettes of his compositions.
He played a strong role in promoting Punjabi culture through ‘kavishari’ and folk songs.
