Melbourne, 6th July 2014 – Recently Sikh youth of Melbourne especially those who regularly do Nishkaam Sewa at Sri Guru Singh Sabha, Craigieburn had a dispute with the Gurdwara Management Committee over the wedding arrangements done at Gurughar.
Sikh youth brought this issue in attention of Sangat that the wedding arrangements done at Gurughar had been turning Gurdwara Sahib into no less than a Marriage Palace. The Langar Hall was getting decorated with balloons, ribbons and other decoration stuff.
In a recent wedding done at Gurughar, even Dhols were used and the bride had not even covered her head. The langar hall was fully occupied with tables and chairs. There were caterers used to serve food. The Gurughar library known as Bhai Gurdas Library was used for couple photo-shoot and the table chairs were used for eating purposes.
It has also been heard that Granthi and Ragi Singhs had been insulted in the past by families of wedding couple, while they tried to express their grief on such arrangements and tried to raise their voice.
It is a matter of extreme shame that our own Sikhs are playing up with Guru Maryada and have got no fear of Guru Sahib. I wonder how can a couple start a blissful life together when they are starting the knot with the disrespect of Dhan Guru Granth Sahib ji.
In the 6th July meeting of Sikh youth and Gurdwara Committee, the management accepted that it was a mistake on their part and they had tried their hard too but all went to vain because of some members of previous committees as well as some well-settled community members for their own personal benefits.
After discussion on this topic, Gurdwara Committee now accepted that they will take responsibility of making changes to the Terms and Conditions of Weddings done at Gurughar.
