Ranjit Power India disappearance: Family raise reward to £25k

Ranjit Singh Power has not been heard of since landing in India earlier this month for a business trip and his family are desperate for any news.

The family of a businessman from the West Midlands fear he may have been kidnapped after he went missing during a trip to India.

Ranjit Singh Power, 54, who owns the Ramada Park Hall Hotel in Wolverhampton, has not been heard from since travelling to Amritsar earlier this month.

His devastated partner and children have appealed for help to trace him saying it is completely out of character for him to fail to keep in regular contact.

He had been due to travel home from the business trip on May 14 and now his family fear the multi-millionaire may have been kidnapped or even killed.

Mr Power’s partner, Angela Bir, who runs the Ramada Park Hall Hotel with him, said she was becoming increasingly concerned that something terrible had happened.

His daughter Emma, 26, said she and her brother were desperate for news.

She told the Wolverhampton Express and Star: “We are getting more and more distraught about our father. Our strongest fears are that he may have been kidnapped or, dread to think of it, even worse. We have not heard from him at all.

“These are our fears because our father is a very strong man and he would contact England two or three times a day if not more. He is constantly on the telephone.

“He’s been in and out of the country as long as I have been a small girl and we know his traits.

“He is a very careful man and has always been aware of his security and, with him being quite a wealthy gentleman, security and safety has always been paramount to him.

“We are just numb right now, words can’t describe the emotions we as a family are going through,” she said. We just want our dad back.

“Everybody is obviously so concerned about him. He’s such a well-loved guy. He’s serious with his business but is a happy-go-lucky and have a good laugh type of person.

The Foreign Office are aware of his disappearance and are working with the family to help locate him. A Foreign Office spokeswoman said: “A British national was reported missing in India on May 14.

We are providing consular assistance to the family and liaising closely with local authorities.”

West Midlands Police spokesman confirmed Mr Power was on the Missing Persons list and urged anyone with information to call 101.

Gian Power, son of the missing NRI Ranjit Singh, has announced on the Facebook that they would offer £25,000 reward to whoever gives information about the NRI. A photograph of Ranjit has also been posted on the FB posts of his son Gian.

UK Foreign and Commonwealth Office UK through email to get update about the ongoing investigation by the West Midland Police, an FCO spokeswoman communicated through an email to The Tribune: “Ranjit Singh Power was reported missing in India on May 14. We are providing consular assistance to his family and laisoning closely with the local authorities.” When raised same query before the West Midland police, they replied, “I’m afraid we wouldn’t comment on any legal proceedings. You should direct those questions to the police leading the investigation in India.” Several queries about the mysterious disappearance of the NRI Ranjit was also raised before the NRI’s son Ranjit and daughter Emma Power, but the duo was yet to reply.
