A 19 years old Punjabi Car passenger has died while another injured after a mobile library bus and a car crashed in Tauranga this morning.
The collision happened about 9 AM on Welcome Bay Rd in Tauranga. The bus and the red Holden Astra were travelling in opposite directions when they collided. It appeared the car had lost control and gone over the centre line after a bend, police said.
Car passenger, Karanbir Singh, who belonged to village Hothiya in district TarnTaran from Punjab, died at the scene. The boy had recently come to NewZealand in June 2014 only on student visa.
The car driver Gurdeep Singh, who was driving the car was taken to Tauranga Hospital after the accident. He was in a stable condition, Bay of Plenty District Health Board communications advisor James Fuller said.
The bus driver was unhurt. A serious crash investigation is underway.
Both the boys had gone for their work this morning but had to come back due to rain. Due to the car having lost control, it collided with the bus on the passenger side leaving Karanbir Singh dead. The body of the dead will be sent to India after postmortem report.
The boy has left one elder brother behind his family with parents.
Police want to hear from anyone who saw the crash or saw the red Holden prior to the crash.
