Amritsar Sahib – Ahead of the anniversary of the Operation Bluestar (Ghalughara), paramilitary forces have been deployed in the city to maintain law and order. One company of the ITBP has been deployed in the city from today.
The city police is on a high alert as the anniversary of the Operation Blue Star anniversary is approaching. The police has geared up to thwart any untoward incident during the anniversary, which falls on June 6. As many as 10 companies of paramilitary forces, besides Punjab Armed Police and team of commandos, have been summoned for making elaborate security arrangements in the city.
To deal with any untoward incident, heavy paramilitary force, Punjab Armed Police, police commandos and local police personnel have been deputed at key locations, especially around the Golden Temple complex, confirmed Police Commissioner Amar Singh Chahal.
SGPC on Alert
The SGPC too is on alert and has readied its special task force to guard vulnerable areas.
Sikh Youth Federation (Bhindrawale) president Dr Gurjinder Singh said that Giani Gurbachan Singh has already been rejected by the Sikh community for his controversial decisions. Hence, he has lost the right to address the Sikh community from the Sikh temporal seat on June 6. He said that only the Sarbat Khalsa-appointed ‘Jathedar’ should be allowed to do so.
Dal Khalsa Calls For Amritsar Shut Down On June 6
The Dal Khalsa has already given a call for Amritsar bandh on June 6 and the AISSF had demanded government holiday on that day.
Addressing a press conference in Amritsar earlier this week, the President of Dal Khalsa, Bhai Harpal Singh Cheema, and the senior leader, Bhai Kanwarpal Singh told that a ‘Holocaust Remembrance March’ will be held in Amritsar on June 3 that will conclude at Sri Akal Takht Sahib after traversing through many main spots of the city.
They added that Sikh activists will pay tribute to the martyrs of the June 1984’s carnage by displaying their pictures in the March.
