New Zealand Sikh killed after falling from rubbish truck

AUCKLAND – A young Sikh man in his early twenties has died after being hit by the rubbish truck in Tuakau, Waikato.

Kamal Singh was a rubbish collection worker, and as per initial reports by the police he fell off the truck and died after being run over by it.

The accident took place on Alexandra Redoubt Road shortly after 12:30 p.m. on Thursday, December 14. Kamal’s family has been notified of the incident.

Kamal’s friend, Daljit Singh, said Kamal had moved to New Zealand from the Mansa district in Punjab and was living here on a work visa.

Kamal Singh is being remembered as a charming, friendly man, who always helped others.

It appeared he had fallen from a rubbish truck and died after being run over, a Police spokesperson said.

The Serious Crash Unit came to the scene after the accident and WorkSafe NZ was notified.
