Members say aim is to free SGPC, Akal Takht of ‘politics’

A new United Sikh Party was launched here on Sunday with the aim to freethe SGPC and Akal Takht of political forces

Party Convener Bhai Jarnail Singh said that the new party will be run by a panel of five ‘amritdhari’ (baptized) Sikhs.

Those chosen to represent the party include Jarnail Singh from the district, Jaswinder Singh from Rajpura, Kulwant Singh from Moga, Sukhminder Singh from Fatehgarh Sahib, Dr Harnek Singh from Amritsar.

They said the party was socio-religious and apolitical party. “The party is apolitical and has been formed to free the SGPC and Akal Takht of politics,” said Jarnail Singh.

“We will only contest the SGPC elections and not any political elections,” he said.

They said the party was in the making for the past ten months and had been working at the district level, so members who had already been dedicatedly working for the amelioration of the Sikh youth had been chosen to lead the party. Other objectives of the party will be to work for the betterment of humanity, open hospitals, schools and making the Sikh youth follow the path of Gurbani and give up drugs and ‘patitpuna’ (cutting of hair).
