A Melbourne primary school has been closed and close contacts will be determined after a student tested positive to coronavirus.
Newbury Primary School in Craigieburn will be initially closed for 24 hours to all staff and students after the positive case.
“Affected students, their families and school staff will be notified by DHHS over the next 24 hours and supported to ensure they understand what actions to take,” a letter from the school to parents read.
“All students and teachers currently learning and working onsite are advised to remain at home while contract tracing occurs.
“They must limit movements to home-based activities and not attend public places.”
The school said it will update families once the contact tracing has been completed.
On Tuesday, a coronavirus case in a teacher was confirmed at Melbourne kindergarten Macleod Preschool in the city’s northeast.
Health Minister Jenny Mikakos said the school would remain closed for 14 days.
The teacher was tested after noticing symptoms.
At least 20 students and staff from the kindergarten are considered close contacts and will remain at home.
