MELBOURNE – In celebration of interfaith unity, Sikh Volunteers Australia celebrated Ramadan with Muslim brethren by serving cooked vegetarian meals at Albanian Islamic centre in Dandenong.

The Sikh Volunteers team served up hundreds of meals and sweets on Sunday, 26th May, in the name of breaking down barriers and bringing the communities together.

In a Facebook post, the organization wrote, “In order to share the message of love and brotherhood with Muslim community during month of Ramadan, Sikh Volunteers Australia served food at Iftar @Dandenong Islamic Centre on Sunday 26th May”.

The event is an example of how people of different faiths come together to celebrate events of religious significance.

The Sikh volunteers prove that it is important for the world to stand together regardless of what your religious beliefs are. The feeling of being connected was the pure feeling of peace on the night of the event.

Organizers say they hope to hold the event in future years as well.

This is a demonstration that we don’t only have religious tolerance in Melbourne, we have religious respect and harmony too. And that’s what makes Melbourne such a beautiful place.
