Plumpton, Melbourne – Various Sikh organisations in Melbourne jointly celebrated the 68th birthday of Sant Baba Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale, the 14th Chief of the Damdami Taksal.
The well-attended Gurmat Smagam, was hosted by Khalsa Shouni Plumpton with the support of Akhand Kirtani Jatha Australia, Khalsa Shouni Shepparton, Sikh Federation Australia, Sampardaye Dal Baba Bidhi Chand Ji, Sampardaye Bhai Daya Singh Ji Rara Sahib, Australian Sikh Support and Damdami Taksal Ranjit Gatka Akhara.
Leading Panthic organizations, their members and the Sikh Sangat took part with great enthusiasm. Akhand Kirtani Jatha Melbourne performed shabad kirtan. Giani Bakhsheesh singh ji from Budha Dal paid tributes to Baba Jarnail Singh ji Bhindranwale by katha vichaars.
Sant Jarnail Singh ji Bhindranwale sacrificed his life along with his comrades while fighting against the Indian army in the Sikh Genocide of June 1984, outside Sri Akal Takhat Sahib, the highest temporal seat of the Sikhs and symbol of Sikh sovereignty. He was the 14th Jathedar of Damdami Taksal and was well respected by all Panthik Jathebandis.
Bhai Daljit Singh from Sikh Federation Australia, Bhai Joga Singh from Khalsa Shouni Shepparton, Bhai Rashpal Singh from Australian Sikh Support, Bhai Gurtej Singh from Qaumi Awaaz Radio and Bhai Shamsher Singh from Damdami Taksal Ranjit Gatka Akhara also addressed the Sangat.
Various speakers addressing the sangat highlighted the need to bring unification among different jathebandis regardless of our internal affairs. The Sikh nation loves every other nation, religion, sect or country and Sikhs prays for ‘Sarbat da Bhala’ (Welfare of mankind) in their ‘Ardas.’
