Meet the 23-year-old Sikh Girl who is proud of her facial hair

Since the age of 11, Harnaam Kaur has suffered from polycystic ovary syndrome.

The condition causes excessive hair growth across her body. Seven years ago, she made the decision to stop shaving and removing the hair.

Now aged 23, and working as a teaching assistant, she told ITV’s This Morning about living with the condition.

The big change happened when I was 16 years ago… when I got baptised as a Sikh. As a Sikh, you’re supposed to keep your hair.

Since the age of 11, I’d just been removing it, waxing, shaving… using all different sorts of creams. I had a lot of stubble on my face.

Harnaam says she was “sick and tired” of being bullied for the way she looked.

I would get bullied every single day. I literally got to the point where I didn’t want to leave my bedroom. That was my life for many, many years.

She credits her Sikh faith for boosting her confidence, and giving her a strong reason to keep her hair.

Harnaam says she now feels “free, fearless, strong and confident”

In the future I would like to get married.

I understand that people might not be attracted to me in such a way, but there are many people in the world that there must be someone out there who will accept me.
