Bathinda: Jarnail Singh, who had pushed Punjab rural development minister Sikander Singh Maluka and was in turn beaten up by the politician’s supporters, was granted bail on Monday.
The court of judicial magistrate first class (JMIC) Ruchika Kamboj at Rampura Phul granted him bail on a surety bond of Rs 50,000. Jarnail Singh, 65, was arrested from Guru Gobind Singh Medical College in Faridkot minutes after he was forcefully discharged on November 28 evening. He was sent to jail the next day.
Jarnail Singh had allegedly tried to assault Maluka after pushing him at Hamirgarh village on November 19 after the minister’s speech.
However Maluka’s supporters had assaulted Jarnail Singh badly and he was booked by police on the charges of obstructing a public servant from discharging his official duty. He was admitted at Faridkot hospital with severe injuries and in unconscious state on November 19.
