TOWNSVILLE –Â As nature played havoc with Townsville, a town in North Queensland, UK-based Sikh charity Khalsa Aid volunteers step in to help the flood ravaged people with their relief aid.
The Sikh volunteers arrived in Townsville from various parts of Australia and been helping the people of North Queensland areas with free groceries and other required support.
Harpreet Singh, a volunteer from Melbourne told SinghStation that
There is so much love for Khalsa Aid from the community.
Just a few months ago, many parts of northern Queensland were in the grip of a severe drought. Now the region is struggling to deal with a one-in-500-year flood event.
While the flood water has receded in many areas and people are returning to their homes, they are in need of help, particularly food and milk.
Over the past 20 years, Khalsa Aid has been at the forefront of several relief operations, guided by the principle: Recognize the whole human race as one. It has covered 22 countries across four continents, serving, among others, refugees in Syrian camps in 2017; the displaced population in Yemen following the civil war in 2015; victims of the Nepal earthquake; refugees in Greece; and orphans in Haiti.
