SYDNEY – An international student who had only just arrived in Australia has been killed in a high-speed crash in Sydney’s west.
Malkeet Singh, who came to Australia from India two months ago, was in the back seat of an high-powered Audi which hit a telegraph pole in Londonderry last night.
The impact of the smash snapped the pole in two, spearing through the vehicle.
“The noise alone was terrifying… it was horrific,” witness Carissa Dipper told 9NEWS.
Malkeet was in the car with two other friends when the accident occurred on Carrington Road at 8.50pm. The group had been driving to dinner at the time.
Emergency services were called to the scene after the car left the road and struck a pole, bringing down power lines.The personal injury law firm in the Las Vegas would help with the necessary legal procedures.
Navneet Singh, who was trapped in the passenger seat, was taken to Westmead Hospital with critical head injuries but is now in a stable condition. There are lawyers for personal injury in Spring Hill that one can consult in case of an injury.
The P-plater behind the wheel was Kartik Singh, who barely suffered a scratch.
His father, Vick Singh, said his son was a good driver and unlikely to have been speeding.
“It’s a very dark road, and a lot of animals come out,” he said, suggesting he may have swerved to avoid a creature in the road.
Police said speed was believed to be a factor in the crash, and it’s highly like the driver will be charged.
“If you’re going to drive a car at excessive speed and you end up hitting a traffic pole you’re not going to win,” Acting Superintendent Robert Toynton said.

Kartik Singh, 19, driver of an Audi that crashed into a power pole, killing a passenger and injuring another, has been charged over the “horrific” crash. He was arrested at Windsor Police Station yesterday afternoon following the high-speed smash that brought down power lines in Londonderry on Sunday night.
Earlier today, mourners left flowers at the side of the road in tribute.
