Moga – The Orbit bus (PB-10 CP- 1813) in which a teenager girl was molested on Wednesday did not conform to general safety requirements under the Motor Vehicle Act, raising a question mark on the authorities concerned.
The bus parked at the police station here had thick curtains and tinted windows, which is in clear violation of the Section 84 of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988. According to this, buses should not have curtains or glasses with dark film.
The DTO of the licence issuing authority to the Ludhiana number, Anil Garg, said, “We check the body before passing it and giving it a registration number as permission to ply on roads. There is no system of random checking on violations like black films or curtains.”
A senior police officer posted at Moga said, “There are very clear-cut rules available on the standards and specifications in buses. However, the police cannot be the implementing authority for all rules. The civil administration, too, has to take the onus. There have been moves earlier to install cameras. But, nothing happened on ground.”
