PIL filed in High Court seeking Surjit Singh’s arrest
Monday July 8, 2013, Chandigarh: While the Punjab and Haryana High Court has dismissed the plea of Punjab Police Sub-Inspector Surjit Singh, seeking security, a PIL in the High court has been filed seeking his arrest.
Surjit Singh had created a sensation by making statements about his involvement in 83 encounters from 1990 to 1993. He had confessed that several of these encounters were fake.
Jalandhar resident Shashi Sharma, in a PIL has sought CBI probe in the case and has stated that based on the confession statement, an FIR should be lodged against him and others and Surjit Singh should be arrested. The PIL has also sought compensation to the families of innocent people, who were killed in fake encounters.
The PIL has been listed before the bench comprising Chief Justice Sanjay Kishan Kaul and Justice A G Masih for Tuesday, July 9, 2013.
PIL filed in Surjit Singh case dismissed
Tuesday July 9, 2013, Chandigarh: The Punjab & Haryana High Court dismissed a PIL filed in the fake encounters case that was brought to light recently by a Sub-Inspector of the Punjab Police, Surjit Singh.
The High Court stated that it was not ready to entertain a PIL based on a news report.
The honorable High Court has also said that no ground work had been done before filing a PIL.
