NEW DELHI : The Delhi High Court on Friday directed Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) chief Om Prakash Chautala to surrender to jail authorities in connection with a disproportionate assets (DA) case.Upset over the “arrogance” Chautala showed by participating in election rallies while out on bail for medical treatment, the Delhi High Court had on Thursday summoned him to personally appear in court.
Chautala, serving a 10-year sentence for his role in the teacher recruitment scam, was granted interim bail on medical grounds. However, on September 26, the court directed him to surrender after noting that he was participating in political rallies.
The court had granted him time till October 17 to surrender. The CBI, however, said that not only had Chautala attended several rallies, he had also claimed that he would take oath of office as the Haryana CM from Tihar.
The high court said that the former Haryana chief minister “cannot take the court for ride” and “cannot be permitted to question the majesty, dignity and decorum of this court”.
