Gurtej Singh IAS

Sydney – S Gurtej Singh IAS, who had recently come to Australia to attend World Sikh Conference, had to face livid opposition from the Sikh community for his blasphemous remarks on Gurbani from Sri Dasam Granth Sahib including Chaupai Sahib, while addressing to sangat in Sydney.

The incident took place on Sunday 20th March at Gurdwara Glenwood in Sydney. As per sources, Gurtej Singh was addressing to the sangat over the topics which were controversial among Sikh Sangat and against the Hukamnamas of Akal Takht Sahib. He was pointing fingers towards the authenticity of Chaupai Sahib and Dasam Granth. He even made some statements over the banis read by Guru Gobind Singh ji during Amrit Sanchar.

As per eye-witnesses, several warnings were given to Gurtej Singh by Sangat to refrain his speech from the controversial topic, however he still continued for about half an hour. As per one of the committee member, Kiret Kaur, who was an eye-witness and present during this event, told Qaumi Awaaz Radio this morning that even Gurughar Management was asked to intervene to stop Gurtej Singh from speaking ill about Gurbani however no appropriate action was taken by them.

Sangat was really turning angry and frustrated at this mismanagement and the scene turned violent when one of the sangat member walked towards Gurtej Singh and tried to stop him. The Singh was however counter-attacked by supporters of Gurtej Singh IAS as well. This altercation eventually resulted in the forcible removal of the dastars as well.

Dr Gurdarshan Singh Dhillon was also present at the scene, however he was not to address the sangat that day as he had done that a day before and was involved in a debate with local sangat.

The local as well as inter-state Sydney sangat has condemned the actions of the Singh who took it to physical actions within the premises of Gurughar. At the same time, suggestions have come as well that the incident could have been avoided if Gurtej Singh IAS had not raised controversial topics and Gurdwara Committee should have followed protocols while allowing such speakers over the Gurughar stage.
