Girl spotting kirpan stopped at exam centre in Chandigarh

CHANDIGARH: Barring a girl candidate sporting a kirpan from entering a Chandigarh examination centre where the entrance test for a paramedical course being held on Sunday led to protests by her relatives and other organizations.

The candidate, Gurvinder Kaur, was not allowed in at DAV Model Senior Secondary School, Sector 15.

An outraged protestor Surjeet Singh said, “How can be a Sikh girl be stopped like this. The standoff ended with the girl being permitted to take the test and given 40 minutes extra. A DDR was registered at Sector 11 police station on the complaint of the girl’s kin.
