A TECHNICAL glitch is causing chaos for taxis around the country this morning.
Some passengers have reportedly refused to pay their fares after the Eftpos terminals that process Cab Charge cards stopped working overnight.
Sources say the issue could be affecting cabs nationwide.
Passengers trying to pay with Cab Charge are being turned down.
Drivers are still able to take cash and process some bank cards via secondary Eftpos terminals.
Cabbies said the issue appeared to have been caused by a Telstra outage and had made processing all bank cards and Cab Charge cards near impossible.
One driver said it was “not unusual” for the phone company’s outages to cause drivers headaches.
He said it caused “chaos” for businesses as clients were unlikely to be always carry cash.
The driver said: “We can process dockets manually, but it depends what type of card. You can’t do it for Eftpos debits.”
