Daniel Andrews has been officially sworn in as the 48th Victorian Premier and revealed the Government’s ministerial team.
Mr Andrews took the oath of office in front of Governor Alex Chernov at Government House.
“As Premier of the State of Victoria I will at all times and in all things discharge the duties of my office according to law,” he said in his oath.
James Merlino was sworn in as Deputy Premier and Education Minister, after serving as Mr Andrews’s deputy in opposition.
Mr Merlino, who holds the seat of Monbulk, is one of many ministers sworn in that also held portfolios in the former Brumby government.
There are nine women in the Cabinet of 22, the most of any Australian government.
Former Bracks and Brumby government minister Jacinta Allan moves into the high pressure public transport portfolio.
“It is going to be an exciting time but we are also very much aware that there is a big job ahead of us,” she said.
Jill Hennessy was named Minister for Health and Ambulance Services.
“We’re going to get down to the job and make sure we get on with delivering on all of our election commitments,” she said.
As expected, Tim Pallas was named Treasurer, while Martin Pakula will take up the role of Attorney-General and Minister for Racing.
Wade Noonan was the spokesman for police and emergency services and has retained those areas in Government.
While Martin Foley has been given three areas to oversee – housing, disability and ageing, mental health and creative industries.
Fiona Richardson was named as Victoria’s first Minister for the Prevention of Family Violence and will be responsible for establishing Labor’s promised Royal Commission.
