Dal Khalsa today attacked Punjab government for it’s alleged crackdown on Surat Singh, who is on fast unto death since January 16 seeking the release of prisoners who have completed their prison term.
In a statement here, party head H S Dhami said, “The state has violated and crushed his right to protest.”
Questioning police version, he said, “How come a person of 83-year-old, who is on hunger strike from last 42 days and held captive illegally at civil hospital in Ludhiana since February 8, becomes threat to peace.”
He alleged that police is terrorising kins and relatives of Surat Singh.
Referring to the media interaction of Director General of Police Sumedh Saini recently on prisoners issues, Dhami questioned the political leadership to tell whether “Punjab is still a police state or do they lack confidence and credibility to speak on burning issues“. He said the issue of Sikh detainees was political hence it was the domain and responsibility of the political leadership to clear the mess.
