Capt. Amarinder Singh under fire over controversial remarks on Sikh Identity

Must Read

Congress party deputy leader, Captain Amarinder Singh came under attack for his controversial remarks on the separate identity of Sikhs relating to Article 25-B of the Constitution.

When asked about the demand raised by Sikhs relating to amendment in Article 25-B, Capt Amrinder Singh said, “What we were 500 years ago”? He said that the Sikh Religion is only 500 years old religion, before that what were we? It definitely seemed to be indirectly pointing to say that the Sikhs are part of Hindus and there is no such amendment needed.

It is notable that in the similar media query regarding a demand raised by various Sikh organisations for the amendment of Section 25(B) of the Constitution, asked to Punjab Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal , he responded that “It is a universally known fact that Sikhs have a distinct identity. Sikhism is an independent race and the entire community has the same stand on this issue. There is no need for any second opinion on this issue.”
