After Chief Minister Gujarat Narendra Modi’s visa cancellation, maybe it’s Sukhbir Badal’s turn!
Recent updates from Ottawa, Canada have unveiled that Moninder Singh, Director and spokesperson of Canadian Sikh Coalition (CSC) has written a letter to Hon’ble Jason Kenney, Minister of Citizenship, Immigration Canada. The letter has shed light on admission of crime by Punjab Police Sub Inspector Surjit Singh.
Reason for the Letter
Punjab Police Sub Inspector Surjit Singh was accused of murdering 83 Sikhs in early 1990s. He was commanded by the senior police officers to do the same. He was directed for the executions in Punjab from 1980-1995 by the Police Commissioner Ludhiana Paramjit Singh Gill.
In July 2013, he had asked for security for the Central Govt. and Punjab Police. He also encouraged others to vent out their thoughts about human rights violations and support him for the cause. Further evidences were submitted to the Home Minister Sukhbir Badal. However, there was no response from his side and he did not initiate any inquest for the “Encounter”.
What does the letter say?
The letter finds Sukhbir Badal guilty of violating Canadian Immigration laws ENF 18 Section 7.
According to the Section 7 of the law, “… persons who commit an offense : persons who attempt to commit an offense; persons who aid and abet, encourage, or are involved in the planning of an offense; persons who are complicit when an offense is committed; a person is considered complicit if, while aware of the commission of atrocities, the person contributes, directly or indirectly, remotely or immediately, to their occurrence. Active or formal membership in the organization responsible for committing the atrocities.
It also states, “Being present at the scene of a war crime, a crime against humanity or genocide; being a member of an organization involved in such crimes; or being a member of an organization with a limited brutal purpose.”
Under the same section, Punjab police is being cited as an organization that has been responsible for atrocities and offenses committed against the masses. The letter states that the presently DGP Sumedh Singh Saini has been charged with murder by CBI inquest. After Sub Inspector Surjit Singh accepted the offense, Punjab police can be categorized under violation of ENF 18.
As Home Minister and Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal has been heading ″ War crimes and crimes against Humanity”, the letter asks to review and cancel Sukhbir Badal’s visa.
Moninder Singh Director/Spokesman of Canadian Sikh Coalition’s letter had not received any reply from the previous Hon’ble Minister Jason Kenney. Now, Sikhs of Canada are expecting a response from Hon’ble Minister Chris Alexander, Minister of Citizenship, Immigration Canada.
