Kotkapura – Two people have been killed in an ongoing clash between Sikh protestors and the police in Vaibhal Kalan village near Kotkapura of Fardkot district on Wednesday, reports Hindustan Times.
The two dead have been identified as Kishan Singh (45) and Gurjit Singh alias Bittu (20), residents of Niamiwala village and Sarawan village respectively.
Meanwhile, 90 persons, including several policemen, were injured in a bloody clash between police and Sikh protesters at Kotkapura town of Faridkot district on Wednesday morning.
Sikhs had gathered in huge numbers and were protesting peacefully while reciting Gurbani, to oppose the alleged sacrilege of  Guru Granth Sahib Saroop at Bargari village in Faridkot.
The police mounted a cane charge, used water cannons and even fired in the air to break up the gathering. The police also detained around 500 protesters.All schools have been closed in the area. A heavy police deployment has been made on all roads and bazaars of Kotkapura and the area near the protest site has been sealed.
More than 100 pages of Guru Granth Sahib ji Saroop were found scattered in a street leading to the gurdwara at Bargari village, 15km from Kotkapura, in Faridkot district on Monday. These pages had been allegedly torn from a ‘bir’ that was stolen from Burj Jawahar Singh Wala village, about 5 km from Bargari village, in June.
Former Jathedar of Takht Shri Damdama Sahib Giani Balwant Singh Nandgarh said he suspected the involvement of Dera Sacha Sauda followers in the desecration incident. The dera has, however, denied any role in the act.
