Amritsar 27-04-2014 : Even as the Akal Takht, the highest temporal seat of Sikhs, has yet to decide the complaint of distorting Grbani against Akali Minister Bikram Singh Majithia, clergy at Takht Hazoor Sahib on Sunday declared him Tankhaiya (guilty as per religious tenet).
Issuing a Hukamnama in this regard, five Sikh high priests led by Jathedar Kulwant Singh at Takht Shri Hazoor Sahib, appealed the Sikh masses to boycott Majithia.
However, this Hukamnama issued by the clergy of Takht Hazoor Sahib is likely to trigger religious controversy as the violation has taken place at Majitha in Amritsar under the jurisdiction of Akal Takht. Moreover, Akal Takht is supreme to issue Hukamnamas (edicts) on all important religious matters.
Following a complaint lodged by the Congress party with the Akal Takht Jathedar, Bikram Majithia has already tendered an apology and has formally submitted an apology letter to the Akal Takht Jathedar Giani Gurbachan Singh.
Majithia had distorted the “Gurbani” while canvassing for BJP’s Amritsar candidate Arun Jaitley. Sikh activists had burnt an effigy of Majithia and took out a march from Gurdwara Nimmawala to Gurdwara Chhevin Patshahi against the alleged blasphemy. Sikh activists had demanded Majithia’s excommunication from ‘Sikh panth’ for changing a word of Guru Gobind Singh’s hymn to fit it in the political campaign for Jaitley.
Now, either Akal Takht has to cancel the Takht Hazoor Sahib Hukamnama by issuing a fresh edict, or, Majithia has to personally appear before the clergy there (at Hazoor Sahib) for atonement.
A Tahkhaiya person has to face the total boycott of the entire Sikh community on every perspective be it social, religious, political. One has to undertake Tankah (religious punishment) to avoid excommunication from the Sikh Panth.
