Bhai Narayan Singh Chaura wrongly convicted under Arms Act

Chandigarh, July 30: The Court of Judicial Magistrate Jaswinder Singh today convicted Social Activist and Author Bhai Narayan Singh Chaura in a case under Sections 25, 54, 69 of the Arms Act case registered against him in 2004. The quantum of sentence will be pronounced tomorrow.

Bhai Narayan Singh ji was arrested last year in Amritsar by the Punjab police after he remained absconded for several years in cases against him. He had been declared a proclaimed offender.

The UT police had registered a case under the Arms Act against Bhai Narayan Singh after seizing a pistol and five cartridges near the boundary wall of the Burail jail on basis of his disclosure.

The case was registered against Bhai Narain Singh following his arrest in connection with the jailbreak when he got the weapon recovered. The police had said that Bhai Narayan Singh had told them that he had brought the weapon to give it to Jagtar Singh Hawara as soon as he escaped from the jail on January 21, 2004.

Bhai Sahib was later granted bail in 2005. He had stopped appearing before the court and was declared proclaimed offender in October 2011.
